Mathletics Celebration October 2011

On Friday 14th October we held our latest – and biggest yet, Mathletics Celebration. This time we celebrated children from Year 3 – Year 6 achieving Mathletics awards and 5 children who had 4th Gold Awards ( 80 certificates) and 3 Children with 5th Gold Awards. (100 certificate!) Mathletics, Head Office in Australia comfirmed that they only knew of one other person in the whole world who have 5 Gold Awards – and now there are 3 at Hovingham! We were so proud of everyone. It was truly moving to see the families supporting us, and joining in to celebrate these achievements. We sang and clapped together – along with some very special guests. The Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Dr Ingrid Roscoe, , the Lord Mayor of Leeds 2011 – 2012, Councillor Alan Taylor , Jane Warburton who is the Chief Executive of Mathletics, Deane Tomlin, the NE Representative for Mathletics and Chris Edwards, the retired CEO for Education Leeds.

The final highlight of the celebration was when 5 Mums from the Parents group were awarded their 1st Mathletics Certificates – it was magical to see the pride in their children’s faces as they clapped for their mothers as they collected their certificates. Following the celebration I was approached by a few more Mums keen to start using Mathletics and so we shall start a separate Parents Mathletics Breakfast Club, which will run before our normal Parents meeting. These families are really helping to make a difference to the learning of the pupils at Hovingham by modelling their own motivation and belief in ‘learning to live, and loving to learn.’
