Mathletics Celebration! July 13th 2012

We had our biggest Celebration yet on Friday 13th 2012 at Hovingham Primary. We were delighted to welcome Jayne Warburton, Deane and Steve, all from Mathletics and 3P Learning, Chris Edwards, Inspector Adams (our Chair of Governors) and many familes to the celebration! Year 1 children joined us as they have just started on Mathletics – so it really was the fullest celebration yet!

Our Guest of Honour, was Aidan Dixon, who was the Olympic Torchbearer who ran along Harehills Lane. Aidan was nominated as a torchbearer by the Youth Services, because of all the amazing work he does with them. He brought with him his Olympic Torch and even let some of the pupils hold it after the Celebration and have their photos taken with him and the torch.

Hovingham now has 3 children who have achieved their 7th Gold awards – Mathletics Head Office in Australia has confirmed that there is only 1 other 7th Gold Award winner in the world – and now we have 3! 3 children also achieved their 6th Gold Award – and every year group had an amazing number of children all receiving Gold Awards. We are also very proud of our Mums – and now have 7 Mums with Gold awards!!

We celebrated the Mathletics Leaderboard – but earlier that morning – showing the sheer determination that we encourage at Hovingham, Saniyyah beat the Naqiba’s top score – with the amazing score of 33,350! I wonder how long that new record will last!

We awarded certificates to the Mathletes of the Year – looking at the highest scores for each class, as totals from September 2011… Naqiba was our Champion, with the incredible score of over 700,000pts! – more than 2000 points every day!

This was my last Mathletics Celebration at Hovingham – but what a truly amazing achievement for all of TEAM HOVINGHAM – they are all stars….

We are all so proud of the achievements of the children at Hovingham! Akleem, Saniyyah and Zain’s family wrote to the Queen, to tell her about their achievements and they received a wonderful letter back from the Queen.

Well done to all TEAM HOVINGHAM! The work that the children put into playing Mathletics is really having an impact on their learning, and this year they have achieved the highest Maths KS2 SATS results we have ever had! 🙂
